The Hamilton Spectator was founded on December 7, 1846, by James Brown. It merged with the Hamilton Times on January 1, 1924.

The Hamilton Spectator is the only daily newspaper in the city of Hamilton, and also serves Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, and Waterdown. It has a weekday circulation of approximately 83,000 and a Sunday circulation of approximately 106,000. The Hamilton Spectator website is hamiltonspectator.com. The publisher is Kirk LaPointe.
