The Hamilton Spectator was founded on December 7, 1846, by James Brown. It merged with the Hamilton Times on January 1, 1924.

The Hamilton Spectator is the only daily newspaper in the city of Hamilton, and also serves Burlington, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, and Waterdown.
